2024 State & Federal General Election Important Dates

Registering to Vote

Saturday, October 26 is the last day voter registration applications can be received by your Board of Elections (BoE) by mail or in person. You can also register to vote online.

Absentee Voting

  • Saturday, October 26 – last day to request an absentee ballot online or by mail
  • Monday, November 4 – last day to request an absentee ballot in person at your county BoE
  • Tuesday, November 5 – date by which BoE must receive your ballot by postmark

If you have already requested an absentee ballot:

  • Track the status of the absentee ballot you requested here. The system updates every 24 hours and applications may take up to 72 hours to appear.
  • Please call 1-866-868-3692 or email AbsenteeHelp@boe.nyc with questions. Assistance is available in multiple languages.
  • If you don’t feel comfortable mailing your ballot or can’t drop it off in person, Invisible Hands volunteers will deliver your ballot for free! Click here to request a volunteer.
  • New York State voters who requested an Absentee Ballot can still vote in person but are no longer permitted to cast a ballot on a voting machine. To vote in person, you must request an Affidavit ballot at early voting or election day poll sites.
