Tomorrow, October 12, is the Last Day to Register to Vote in the November 6 General Election

Hopefully you’re aware that tomorrow is the last day to register to vote in the 11/6 General Election.

But, the October 12 deadline is also an extremely important deadline for another election: the 2013 City Primary. Currently registered voters who wish to change their party affiliation must do so by October 12 in order to vote in that party’s Primary Election in 2013.

New York City primary elections are “closed primaries,” meaning only those persons registered with a party can vote in that party’s primary election. This means, if you are not registered with a party, then you cannot vote in the primary election. Likewise, if you’re a registered Democrat you cannot vote in the Republican primary, and vice versa.

If you are currently registered to vote, and would like to change our party affiliation so that you can vote in a specific party’s primary election you must do so by Friday, October 12, 2012.

Additional information on registering to vote in New York City can be found on the City Board of Elections’ Registration page.
